When in Rome...Day 5

Okay, okay...it's corny, but it's our last day in Rome.  One needs a bit of humor as the feet rebel from overuse. We've worn ourselves out in a good way. We checked out of our hostel and had a couple of free hours to do our last exploring before catching the bus to the airport with our group.

Day 5 - October 4

What did we do?
We went to the church Michelangelo designed:
Santa Maria degli Angeli.
He designed it in the mid 16th century where the 3rd century Baths of Diocletian
frigidarium used to be. Other architects and artists added to the church over the following centuries.
The ceiling is the only untouched part of Michelangelo's original design.

Like I wrote earlier, this church was built over Bath House ruins.  We next walked to see those ruins.
It was helpful to see an architectural model to get a better idea of what they originally looked like.

Only a small portion remains today.

By this point in our trip, I was on a bit of "ruin" overload.
Seeing this Pope sculpture was a bit of a welcome relief as we found our way back
to our travel group.

Good-bye, Italy!
 Good-bye, really good food!

It's good to say hello to Sweden once again.  Fall has arrived since we left just five days ago.
