Looking for the House and What We Found Along the Way

When Wes was a fourth grader, his family lived in Sweden for almost a year while his Dad did research on Anders Nygren.  This is their rented home in Bjarred - the Baltic Sea was their front "yard" on the southern coast and near to the the university city of Lund. Wes wanted to see this house again and last weekend was the perfect time to do so. With no exact address for the Bjarred home, we set off in search of this gem by the sea. Guide books in hand, we knew there were places to stop along the way for quaint villages and towns, museums, cathedrals, beach views and beautiful scenery.  In addition to the Emigrant Museum in Vaxjo, we went to a Glass Museum and the 12th-century cathedral there.    The interior of the church is lovely; not ornate.  Off to one side, however, is one of my favorite art pieces: the TREE OF LIFE. It's All Relative

The entry mural at the UTVANDRARNAS HUS (Emigration Museum) in Vaxjo, Sweden Over the weekend, Wes and I headed out on a "roots" sort of trip. All of my great grandparents emigrated from Sweden and Wes had a grandfather and great grandparents emigrate as well. We made many stops over the course of our three-day weekend and these stops are highlighted here. Stop #1:  Boda Boda is so small that you can miss this sign for it if you blink an eye! Thanks to Mark, Wes was able to get the GPS coordinates for this destination to find the home of his paternal Great Grandparents, Gust(av) and Emma.  Gust and Emma were neighboring sweethearts who emigrated once they married. Mission accomplished! And, no, we didn't meet the current owners at Gust's former home.                                  ...
