Julfest! (Costumes, Food, Program, Dancing - SVF Style)

When we found out there would be an all-school Julfest / Christmas Party,
we were both excited...and concerned.  Guests were encouraged to wear Disney-related
 costumes to the festivities.
But what to do about costumes? We had to work with what we had:  I had a cobalt blue blazer and Wes had a suit to work with.  Thus, I became Dory (the fish) and Wes became Mr. Banks - as in the original Mary Poppins.  Using leftover felt from Christmas ornaments I made for the Grands (Dala Horses), I whipped up a Dory hat and printed off a Nemo fish.  Done.
For Wes,  the red poppy found in London was pinned on his suit coat. He used a necktie knotted in an odd way around his neck, poked up his white shirt collar and used my winter hat with upturned brim
and black band (from a scrap in my stash) to cover up the flowers on my winter hat.  Done.

Then we walked over to the party and discovered that people really weren't wearing Disney character costumes.  Awkward!
Oh well.
We did have the option to remove accessories, after all.
(Many gusets were attired in festive colors and some wore headbands as shown in our dining
companions picture.)
Our meal was delicious and included kottbullar, Jansson's Temptation (looks like scalloped potatoes with the twist of anchovies in the mix), many different types of herringham, julmust, breads, knackebrod, and cheeses.
Our students seemed to enjoy this Julbord, too.

Following the delicious dinner, the guests gathered in the auditorium for music, skits, and much merriment. Wes and I were honored to be asked to come to the front and given parting gifts.

In all our costumed finery, no less!

Then, the most magical part of the evening began:
the chairs were pushed off to the side, the piano wheeled to the center of the floor, and the Christmas tree placed next to the piano.  Two accordion players joined in with the piano player, bass player and flute player and a "caller" completed the group!

Think square dancing on steroids!
Dancers in two circles going in opposite directions!
Stomping!
Clapping!
Whooping!

It was fun fun fun!

I could see this as an annual event with our family..although we do dance around the house a bit on Christmas Eve, it has never ever been like this party!

There was more to this party ... a candy "bar" upstairs followed by more dancing for the students.

As for us?  We took our costumes home with us and went to slumberland dreaming about a true
Julfest in Sweden...Disney style.
