More Visitors? Yes, Please! (Or how we fika-ed every day.)
Our son and his wife arrived the day after Anne and her flickas departed. With our apartment all decorated for the holidays, we were in for one festive visit! (Many thanks go out to Kari's parents for watching their boys while J and K were here in Sweden with us - they survived a snowstorm that closed schools, a power outage in their home and even a bout or two of stomach flu...whew!)
As with the girls, we promised to have fika every day.
We delivered on that promise. After John was coerced, bribed, asked to talk to Wes's class of Swedish students - the class being
Intro to the United States of America.
John acted as a guest lecturer explaining what it is like to be an Election Judge in the Chicago area, He was more than ready for fika after his first true gig of being a professor.
(Ask him about the time he masqueraded as such in his younger days.)
This was our Monday fika at the Bagarn Bakery.
On Tuesday, usually a kanelbullar day at SVF, we had a fika featuring buttery cookies and coffee.
Apparently I took a picture that obstructed Wes's face with a cheery peach flower. Ooops.
On Tuesday afternoon, we eked out a second fika in tandem with lunch first at a charming restaurant called Cyrano's.
On Wednesday, we were going to have a fika with John's SVF friend, Simon and his family, but it turned into an impromptu lunch with soup and grilled cheese on the menu.
On Thursday, John wore his "new" red pants to a fika at one of my favorite places -
the eating area at the Erikshjalpen Second Hand store.
(Here's John in the red pants. He's not sure about them, so I conducted a sneaky FB poll...

the readers came out in droves to give a resounding YES, KEEP THEM. We'll see.)
| Do note that the marzipan cake is served on those blue Bing and Grondahl plates that so many collect back home! |
| I thought this table looked so sweet I should make it my FB cover photo! |
On Friday morning our love birds left too early for fika.
But, not to worry, there are more food adventures to come in the next post!
