Fall Break for the Geezers - November 1-2 (London!)

Not only did we buy our red poppy at the train station today, we also bought two one-day "tube" passes for our day all over the city.  It was, once again, a rainy day and we had a lot of places to visit and we wanted to stay as dry as possible!

Our first destination was the
Tower of London.  Otherwise known as Her Magesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, it was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England.  William the Conqueror had the White Tower built in 1078.  Since then, this fortress has been used as an armory,  a royal residence, a prison, a mint and even an animal menagerie.

This is the actual White Tower.

It's also a great place to get a photo of the London Bridge nearby.

For some, it's all about getting a photo op with a Beefeater.

From here we took the tube to St. Paul's Cathedral.
As in where Princess Diana married Charles.

Did you know Diana chose this church instead of Westminster Abbey because of the entry stairs that could accommodate the long train on her wedding dress?

I loved imagining all the wedding fanfare that took place in 1981 as we visited this same area some 37 years later.

Do you know that it costs 20 euro to go inside the church now? If you go to "pray" you can go in free to a side chapel and still not even get a view of the aisle Diana walked down. Oh, well.

This is all I could see and even then, I was admonished for taking a quick pic.

Onward and forward to The British Museum.
Quite a collection here!  The highlight was The Rosetta Stone. Dated at 196 BC and found in 1799 is rather mind-boggling, don't you think?
For me, however, the best part of our museum visit was treating ourselves to a High Tea in the afternoon.

Carol, this High Tea menu is for you!  I know you'd want specifics!

It was brilliant!

This was the perfect way to wrap up our trip to London.
We made it back to our hotel, put our feet up a bit, then packed for our morning departure.
We took the train to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt we flew back to Jonkoping.

The geezers had an amazing trip averaging 8.4 miles of walking each day
with a grand total of 61.2 miles on our Fall Break!!

What was even more impressive is that we were still happy with each other's company!
