Off to Sweden!

It's been a long time coming.
And a full-circle event.

Brothers on the Swedish American Line Gripsholm in 1963.

The first time Wes went to Sweden was in 1963 when his father, Elder, was doing his PhD work
on Anders Nygren. The family took a week to travel to Gothenburg from New York City on this ship. Wes was a fourth grader and went to a Swedish school as well as having supplemental home-schooling for the school year they lived there.

Elder went on to make connections for a "sister school" in Jonkoping, Sweden with a student exchange program between North Park College and "SVF" starting in 1976/77. In 1989, he was the visiting professor at this school and we enjoyed visiting Elder and Muriel there...bringing Anne with  us as John stayed home with friends

Anne - a first grader - loved going to Sweden with us and seeing her beloved grandparents again!

Time passes and Anne goes abroad to SVF as does John during their university studies. Of course, we visited them there. Sweden is just such a lovely place to visit, you know?  Don't even get me started on the practice of fika!!

Oh my!  Oh my!  Oh my!

And now we have the opportunity of a lifetime to go back.  To live there.  For a semester while
Wes is the visiting professor at SVF himself.  Full circle.  Like father, like son.  (And, don't you worry, we have our USA residence set with care-takers and inhabiters.)

So, if you'd like to follow along with our travels, come on back and visit this blog of our adventures...comments and encouragement will be much appreciated!

  1. I see that it's finally a little cooler over there right now after a long, hot summer. Enjoy the cloudberries, lingonberries, and the sense of déjà vu all over again.
